Cruising along the water, and rolling rocky hills, the bus pulls up to a
rest area. All the typical features, fast food, toilets, and a little
playground for the children. As I board the bus, Sam is still inside
waiting for his hot dog wrapped in bacon and side of French fries. The
bus driver turns over the engine, getting ready to go. Finally Sam runs
out of the restaurant, Styrofoam take-away container in hand. With a
shake of his head the bus driver says no food on the bus. Sam retreats
the curb and starts eating hurriedly. A boat horn echos out, as a ferry
pulls up to the dock at the end of the parking lot. Cars and
18-wheelers speed off, in a seemingly never ending line. Car after car
after car, and trucks rev past us. The bus driver leans out the door and
yells something at Sam, who stands up and walks away from the bus.
Simultaneously the bus driver turns on the engine, closes the door and
drives onto the ferry boat. To my relief I found Sam on the ferry
boat...top floor enjoying the fresh breeze and breath-taking view. The
ferry ride last about 30 minutes, through the fjords with water and
mountain on all sides. Beautiful!! ... and a little reminiscent of Lake
Champlain :-)
Very Cool! Waiting to hear about Bavaria. Karl says the mountains there are cool, too, and very much like Vermont.
